During the past four years visitors have been flocking to the beaches of the city of Babolsar, on the edge of the Caspian Sea, to enjoy a new kind of holiday diversion. For, with the support of government agencies, the beaches have been transformed into an exhibition of sand sculptures during the summer. The sculptures - ranging from replicas of TV sets and the Egyptian pyramids to more abstract animal forms - have proved to be a great success for Babolsar's already booming tourist industry. In this multimedia report we visit the fourth festival, held in August this year, and talk to the organisers, artists and visitors about the event.
